Lee Porter

Lee porter, age 81, passed away on January 23, 2019 after a short illness in Redlands, California. Born in Syracuse, New York on September 26, 1937, son of the late Madilyn Alger Porter Beeman and Kenneth Donald Porter, he was a resident of Redlands for 38 years.

Lee graduated from Central High in Syracuse, received his bachelor’s degree from Oswego State University, New York and his master’s degree and doctorate in education from Syracuse University. His positions ranged from teaching fifth grade to being a university dean and for six years, a member of the Air National Guard.
During his career he worked at West Genesee Central Schools, Syracuse University, University of Arizona, and Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois.
For the last nineteen years of his career, he was a professor of Educational Psychology and Dean of the College of Extended Learning at California State University San Bernardino.  He has been retired for twenty years.
Among his many accomplishments was authoring a book, “Degrees for Sale” for which he was interviewed on the “Today Show” by then host Barbara Walters.
During his life, he enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states and all continents except Antarctica, though he did make it to within 400 miles. His pets were his joy and he could be seen walking one of his many beloved dogs every morning until he lost his sight.
Lee is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betty Ann (Tarkowski), his brother Donald (Carol) of Ellenton, Florida, and two nephews, Timothy of Florida and David of New York.
