Scott Christopher Wilhite

Scott Christopher Wilhite passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2024. He was

born February 14th, 1969 in Fullerton, California to Sandra Jean and Robert Eugene

Wilhite. His family moved to Corona, California, where he grew up and graduated from

Corona Senior High School in 1987.

After high school, he worked as a cabinetmaker for several companies. Notably, he

fabricated many of the doors and windows for Toontown in Disneyland. He later

worked as a mechanic before realizing his dream of a law enforcement career with his

acceptance into the California Highway Patrol Academy. He reported to the academy in

Sacramento in November 2000. After 6 months apart, his whole family traveled to see

him graduate on May 11, 2001.

He started his CHP career in Rancho Cucamonga and later transferred to Desert Hills

Inspection Facility, where he currently served. He was an outstanding officer, fair and

compassionate. In 2002, he received a Division Chief’s Commendation for his role in

saving a life. In 2007, he was selected as Desert Hills Inspection Facility’s “Officer of the

Year” by his peers. He received another Commendation in 2010 for his exceptional

performance. Throughout his career, Scott served in various roles such as training

officer, range officer and Association Representative. As proud as he was of these

achievements and serving the State of California, his family and friends were, by far, his

greatest accomplishments.

He and his wife, Amy, were married November 20, 1993. They later welcomed children

Macy (1996), Kyle (1998), Avery (2000), Natalie (2002), and Mark (2008). They made

their home in Crestline, California. Time as a family over the years included dirt bikes, a

dune buggy, boating, camping, fishing, and hiking. Memorable trips were made to the

Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, and Zion National Park. The Sierras were

Scott’s favorite place to explore. He traveled at least once a year to fish at several of his

favorite lakes.

Grandchildren Aspen, Landon, and Wren were the absolute joy of his life. When he

wasn’t on Facetime with them, he was thinking of the next time he would see them in

person, or recounting their latest milestones and antics. He often remarked on different

ways they reminded him of their parents when they were little.

Friends knew him as a generous man who was always willing to help with cars, projects,

or just being there in time of need. If you were looking for him, you would likely find

him in his garage, tinkering with one thing or another. He loved making improvements

to his boat and camping trailer.

Scott also spent over a decade as a co-director of the Mountain Fifes and Drums in Lake

Arrowhead. This organization teaches music, history, leadership, discipline, and

responsibility to area youth through Revolutionary War music. The group performed in

Colonial Williamsburg and surrounding locations numerous times.

Scott is survived by his wife Amy, children Macy (Eric) Whitesell, Kyle (McKayla)

Wilhite, Avery (Nathanael) Medina, Natalie (Gavin) White, and Mark Mesa-Wilhite. He

leaves behind grandchildren Aspen, Landon, and Wren. He is also survived by his father,

Robert Wilhite, brothers Todd and Brad, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in

death by his mother, Sandra.

A celebration of life honoring Scott will be on Saturday, April 13th 2024 at 2 pm.
