Retired Air Force Major Walter Calvin Corrin, age 90, of Redlands California passed on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, California. 

Walter was born to George Dewey and Dorothy Beatrice Corrin, January 11, 1928, in East Orange, New Jersey.  Walter graduated from East Orange High School in 1947 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1953; and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1971. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., a Connecting Link with the San Bernardino Valley Chapter of the The Links, Inc., a volunteer with the Special Olympics and was active in various other social, voluntary and philanthropic organizations.
Walter married his wife of 64 years, Clara Elizabeth Corrin on August 25, 1954, and they lived together in Redlands, California.  Together they raised two sons. Walter leaves his wife Clara, and his legacy: Michael George Corrin of Los Angeles, California; and, Mark Jeffrey Corrin, of Redlands, California.  His children remember him as a sweet and gentle spirit and a wonderful husband and father.
Walter also leaves to cherish his memories three grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pop Pop”:  his granddaughter Kennedy N. Corrin, recent graduate of New York University (NYU), is currently living and working in New York City;  his granddaughter Courtney  M. Corrin, is currently in her junior year of college at the University of Southern California (USC) and living in Los Angeles, California; and, his grandson Michael, is a freshman at DePaul University currently studying and living in Chicago, Illinois.
Walter grew up in a family of ten with seven siblings who he loved dearly:  George, Lorraine, Malcom, Muriel, Jean, Peggy and Larry.  He is survived by four siblings: Muriel Davis of Chatham, New Jersey; Jean Peters of Port St. Joe, Florida; Peggy Crawley of East Orange, New Jersey; and Lawrence Corrin of East Windsor, New Jersey. And a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Retired Major Walter Calvin Corrin served his country as an Intelligence Officer for the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force (USAF) for 20 years; and, as a member of the USAF Inspector General (IG) Team at Norton Air Force Base, in San Bernardino, California for his last three years of distinguished military service, retiring in 1974.  In 1967-68 he completed his tour of duty in Saigon to support U.S. military efforts in Vietnam. He was awarded with three Commendation Medals for sustained acts of heroism and meritorious service; a Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding meritorious achievement and service to the United States; and a Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone. After serving a distinguished military career he began a second career in Civil Service, working as a Management Analyst for the County of San Bernardino for 27 years, retiring in 2003.
A Funeral Service honoring his memory is scheduled for Thursday October 4, 2018, at 9:30 am at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 419 S. 4th Street, Redlands, California,  92373.  The viewing will be on Wednesday October 3, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. at the Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands, California, 92373. A reception will follow directly after the funeral services at the church.  Following the reception, friends and family will be escorted from the church to the burial site at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, California, 92518 where retired Major Walter Calvin Corrin will be buried and put to rest with full Military honors at 1:30 pm.  Father Paul of Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate at the church and the gravesite ceremony.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in his name to his Alma Mater, Tuskegee Institute, a private, historically black university established by Lewis Adams and Booker T.
