Alan Elder

d. September 10, 2011

Alan (Big Al) Edler Al Edler, 62, went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Al joined the Marines upon graduating from high school in 1967 with friends, who remain good buddies. He served in the USMC from 1967 to 1971, where he received a Bronze Star with V , three Purple Hearts, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V and a Good Conduct medal along with others. He was a member of the Marine Corp Reserves and a 32nd degree Mason and had successful careers as an Arcadia Police Officer, LA County Sheriff, an insurance adjuster, Civil Engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers and retired as the Forest Road Manager with the Angeles National Forest. He enjoyed making shadow boxes and making sure everyone received all their medals and benefits for their military service, going to car shows, working on cars, traveling, fishing and sunsets. Through out his life time he maintained memberships and participated in various organizations established to honor, promote and assist U.S. Veterans. Greeting Al in heaven will be his mother, Clara Edler; father, Ernest Edler and step-mother Jesse; older sister Pat Bianchi and step-son Christopher Sweet-Edler (Navy) and many more wonderful family and friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbra; step-son James and Tina with grandkids Julian and Emma De La Torre, of California and step-son Rich and Lori Sweet of California; his sister, Maxine and William Fredrick and nephew, Jonathan Fredrick, of Ohio; cousin Raymond and Doris Addison of Colorado. In lieu of flowers Big Al would like all who can to donate blood. He received many blood transfusions at the VA hospital in Loma Linda, CA and was very appreciative and thankful for the people who gave blood that helped him out. Services will be held at Desert View Funeral Home at 11478 Amargosa Road, Victorville, CA 92392 at 11:00 AM on September 29, 2011. A private cremation ceremony was already held. He was an Ooh-Rah kind of guy and will be greatly missed. Semper Fi.
