Ana Roque Sumaya went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 72. Ana was born in Loma Linda on December 8, 1951. She was the youngest of 8 children born to Ramon and Nolberta (nee Roque) Sumaya. In addition to her parents, Ana was predeceased by her sisters Angelina, Belen, and Lupe (who died at birth) and her brothers Raymond, Tony, and Chris. She is survived by her brother Salvador, her nephews, nieces, and many other relatives.
Ana graduated from Redlands High School in 1970 where she excelled in art. After receiving the Phyllis Adair Scholarship to study cosmetology, she attended the cosmetology college. She had many creative outlets such as painting, decorating, and sewing. She went on to pursue her passion for cooking and baking. She enjoyed designing wedding cakes and pastries for family and friends.
She lived a life dedicated to serving others. Ana worked as a nanny for several families and poured her life into the children she watched. She sought to instill strong values through encouragement and teaching. She delighted in sharing family stories with others and studied genealogy, especially when it had to do with her Irish and Middle Eastern ancestors. She was equally proud of her Mexican heritage and Native American Tohono O'odham lineage.
Ana took great pride in serving the priests in her local parish for twenty years as a housekeeper and cook. She took great care to beautifully set the table and prepare delicious food for those she served.
In 2000 she made a profession of promise to the secular order of discalced Carmelites. She was inspired by St. Therese of Lisieux, who was known as "the little flower." She was one among many in God's garden. She will be remembered for the loving care she provided to her parents as well as each of her siblings. She will be forever missed and cherished by her family and those who knew her.
