Betty Myers Trayer Betty Myers Trayer passed away July 10, 2010 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was born January 5, 1923 in Los Angles, California to Carlos Myers and Eulalia Watkins Myers. After living in Los Angles, Betty and her family moved to El Monte, California where she graduated from El Monte High School. Following high school graduation she attended Pasadena Community College where she majored in business. Her first job was at the Bodger Seed Company in El Monte. Betty met her future husband Max Trayer when she was sixteen years old and both were attending El Monte High School. They married on November 6, 1944 while he was still in the US Navy. Following their marriage, they moved to San Leandro, California where he was stationed. After his discharged from the Navy, they returned to El Monte, California. In 1952 they moved to Glendora, California where Max continued in his career as a building contractor. Betty assisted him in the business by keeping the books, helping to gather bids and decorating the houses. Max and Betty began attending El Monte Wesleyan Methodist Church together after their children were born due in part to the influence of her mother. While there they both committed their lives to Christ and became very involved in the church. After moving to Glendora they helped found and build the Arrow Highway Wesleyan Church in Covina. In 1962, Max and Betty and their children moved to Yucaipa, where they continued in the building business. At First Baptist Church they made many lifelong friends. Betty began selling real estate as a way of helping to put her children through college. This led to her and Max opening a Century 21 real estate office. Betty s strong faith in Christ shaped her philosophy of life and sustained her through hard times. When asked how she kept a good attitude after losing her husband, her eyesight and much of her mobility, Betty would say, I have had very good life. I had a good husband who loved me. I have my children and family. I have traveled and I have a nice home. She was able to be grateful for her blessings and realistic about her declining health. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to grow in their faith in Christ. Betty was an astute businesswoman who loved being in business and studying finance. Until the end she was managing all of her affairs and keeping track of all of her paperwork, despite increasing difficulties from macular degeneration. After the passing of Max in 1989 she designed and sub-contracted her own home. Betty loved gardening and in her younger years cultivated fruit and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed looking out the windows of her home to her flower garden. She also loved traveling and enjoyed many trips. Hawaii and Palm Desert were two of her favorite places. Among the other places she visited were Europe, Australia, Alaska, the Panama Cannel, and much of the US. She and Max and Susan and Steven enjoyed many camping and fishing trips to Kern River, and many National parks, first in a tent and then in a small travel trailer. Her family was a source of great joy to her. She was generous and loving to friends and family. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Services were held Thursday July 15, 210 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Yucaipa, California. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park of Covina, California at 2:30 pm.
