After a courageous battle with ALS, Jean died on August 7, 2016, in Mission Viejo, California. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. She leaves behind her daughters, Catherine (Baxter), Cheryl (Smith), Christine (Snow), son Clifford (Dickey), six grand children, and four great grandchildren. Jean was born in Redlands, California on November 19, 1935 to Howard and Mildred Phoenix. She went through the Redlands school system and graduated from Redlands High school in 1953, later attending San Bernardino Valley College. She married Jack Dickey, a teacher, and then together they had four children. In 1975 she married Walter (Wally) Vanderpool and had a happy life until he passed in 1992. Jean was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi in Hacienda Heights. After moving back to Redlands, she was an early member of Inland Harvest, Cosmos and also a Kimberly Crest docent. She loved international traveling, cooking for her family, and tending to her rose gardens. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2:00pm at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Avenue, Redlands, California 92373. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Society.
