On May 7th, 2020, Carole Grace Peterson passed away at home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 19th, 1934 in Montezuma, Iowa. She was the oldest of 4 children. Carole was a 45 year resident of Redlands.
Carole was proceeded in death by her husband John Ferdinand Peterson and her brother Lee Cummings. She is survived by five children: Mary Pennachi (Joseph), John Peterson (Cindy), Katherine Burton (Richard), Carla Bryan (Ronnie), and Barbara Sherman (Chuck). In addition, she left 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Jane Ann Schlichting and Alice Ladehoff, and many nieces and nephews.
Carole and her husband Jack were married on February 20th, 1955 in Montezuma, Iowa. They started their military life in Dayton, Ohio. Other States they called home were Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts and California. Three years were spent in Germany with their 5 children.
Traveling was one of Caroles greatest joys. She visited almost every continent and became an avid cruiser. Many trips were shared with her sister Jane. A mother daughter cruise had become an annual tradition over the past 6 years. Caroles last cruise to the Caribbean was in January 2020. She shared this trip with her 4 daughters and close friends.
Other hobbies included the Womans Hilltop Investment Club, trips with the Officers Wives Club and gourmet cooking. Everyone knew that Carole would be watching Jeopardy nightly at 7:00pm, probably with dark chocolate and a glass of red wine. Sunday family dinners were a weekly tradition.
Time spent with family was precious to Carole, especially at Christmas. Her home was full of Christmas Nutcrackers and decorations. The beautifully decorated tree with sentimental ornaments collected over the years from many countries, was always a great joy to her and her family.
Carole was a much-loved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Mother in Law, Sister, and Aunt. She will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
