Darvin Frederick Hemm

Proceeded in death by his loving wife Betty Ancell Hemm November 24, 2013, parents Fred Hem and Margaret Hartley Hem Ottumwa Iowa, brothers Charles Hem, Robert Hem and Royce Hem and sisters Florence, Eldonna & Margaret (Muggins) of Ottumwa IA. Children: Danny Hemm (WI) Kenneth Hemm (CA), Susan Frymire (MI), Randy Hemm (CA), Timothy Hemm (CA) and Julie Williams (AZ). Thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren Darvin moved in 1952 to Long Beach Calif with his wife Betty and two oldest children with just 200.00, their car and small trailer all the way from Illinois. From there they moved to Riverside Calif and lived in Glen Avon until they bought the land and built their own home in Yucaipa Calif. in 1980. Darvin worked for Valley Engineering until he retired in 1992 when he and Betty started traveling to visit their children, Grand Children & family members and friends throughout the United States. Darvin loved keeping busy and would tinker on his truck or build things from wood or metal. He was also a foster father to many foster children over the years and left a good impression on them. An active member of church he was first a deacon for many years at the Mira Loma Baptist Church then at the Bryant St. Baptist Church in Yucaipa. While working for Valley Engineering he worked on a number of projects that he loved talking about. Building the exhibit for JAWS at Universal Studios, setting up the iron structure at the Riverside Public Library and numerous buildings in the Southern and Central California areas. He loved telling stories of the job he held in a restaurant in Ottumwa. Services will be held: Friday July 17th, 2015. At 9 am.
