David Austin Westerfield

August 22, 1934 — July 31, 2022

David Westerfield of Redlands passed away on July 31. Born in Los Angeles in 1934, he was raised in Coachella, CA and graduated from the University of Redlands after serving two years in the US Army where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

He married his college sweetheart, Patricia Jackson, on August 25, 1957 and was looking forward to their 65th anniversary this month. After graduating from the U of R, he went to work as a Right of Way agent for the State of California. One of his favorite memories was buying the land for Lake Perris. He eventually went to work for the Federal Housing Administration where he served for 40 years, retiring as Director of Single Family Housing Division in Santa Ana.

David was a proud father, an avid reader, and loved gardening. Friends and family were regular recipients of his bountiful harvest of sweet peas each spring.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, his five children and their spouses David Westerfield (Lisa Emenhiser), Lynne Mast (Jay), Thomas (Michele Pietrasiewicz), Michael (Kelly Sherman), Scott (Carey Begbie), fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Grandchildren: D.J., Matthew, Taylor, Timothy, Blake, Madison, Jack, Logan, Bri, & Des Westerfield; Kaitlin Gorman, Amanda Piercy, Allison and Andrew Mast and Kelsey Booth. Great-grandchildren; MacKenzie Booth and Henry Gorman
