David H. Olson

David H. Olson, a past president of both the Redlands Horticultural and improvement society and of
The Spinet music organization died August 22, 2020; in Redlands He was 89.
An estate planning and planned giving expert, he had resided for most of the past 40 years in Redlands.
He was hospice following surgery for cancer in late July.
David, who was born in Cloquet, MN, on July 2, 1931, was proud of his Swedish heritage. He traveled to Sweden several times to meet long-lost relatives and was known locally for the many Swedish pancake
Breakfasts he offered as auction items to raise funds for the Redlands Symphony and to entertain church and choral musician friends.
David received his bachelors degree in music and economics from the University of Washington. He was Proud of early his music experiences as a violinist and tenor with the St. Olafs choral organizations, and he taught music seral years at Northwest University in Kirkland Wash.
He served briefly in the United States Coast Guard in the early 1950 and continued his education at the
University of Washington. During this time, he was active as a basketball referee for several colleges and
Universities in the Settle area and worked as a printer.
In the 1960s he began his career in financial management for Charitable organizations as the Business Manager of University Congregational Church in Settle. He moved to California in 1970 to be the Business Manager of Forest Home Christian Conference Center, and in 1974 became one of the principals of Lee Bernard Company, an organization that raised funds for non-profits through planned
Gifts. In his capacity as a fundraiser for Christian organizations, he conducted estate planning seminars across the United States, working on behalf of the American Baptist Churches, Christian Record Braille, Compassion International, World Vision, and many other Christian organizations.
David and wife Marge moved to Redlands in 1970. He was president of Inland Empire Estate Planners. He served as president of the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society from 2003-2005 and The Spinet from 2009-2011. He was a long-time member of First Congregational Church of Redlands where he sang for years with the Sanctuary Choir and served on the church Deaconate. He also sang in the Community Chorus of Redlands.
He was a long-time member of the Redlands Art Association in support of artist-wife Marge during their 67 year of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; three children, Nancy Best Redlands; Taryn Derke (Bernard), Seattle, and David Olsen (Suzanne), Ojai; three grandchildren, Peter Olsen, Elizabeth Olson, Seattle; and Graylin Derke, Seattle; brother Jon Olson (Dianne), Seattle; and sister Lillianne Robinson (Lee), Seattle.
A family service is set for Friday, Aug 28, and his remains will be transported to Washington State. Friends are invited to a curbside drive-by Friday, Aug. 28, at 222 W. Clark St. from 6-8 p.m. where they can pick up a brochure regarding Davids life, with information on an Internet link for posting remembrances.
The family requests that no flowers be sent but instead, Memorial donations may be made in his name to First Congregational Church (Music Education Program), 2 W. Olive Ave., Redlands; or to the Museum of Redlands, P.O Box 470, Redlands 92373
