David M. Parson, 75, died on June 8, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
He was a 50-year resident of Yucaipa.
David was born on Oct.31, 1942, in Torrance to Edgar Parson and Margaret Cluff Parson. He grew up in Manhattan Beach in a big family with two older sisters and three younger brothers.
In high school he enjoyed running and was on the track team. He graduated from Mira Costa High School in 1960.
David served a mission for the LDS church in France from November of 1962 to May of 1965. There he grew to love the French people and corresponded with several families for decades to come.
In June of 1965, David married his sweetheart, Carolyn Cunliffe. The two shared almost 53 years together and raised five daughters together.
In 1968, David earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal State Long Beach University and was immediately hired to teach French at Yucaipa High School. The young family moved to Yucaipa where they would spend many happy years.
In 1975, David earned his master’s from UC Riverside. He would teach either French or U.S. History until 2004 when he retired from teaching at Yucaipa High School.
David enjoyed traveling through Europe with his precious Carolyn by his side, going to classical music concerts, and reading voraciously.
He had a collection of several thousand books. Most of all David enjoyed being with his big family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Parson of Yucaipa, and his five daughters; Shannon Eckert of Yucaipa, Nicole Monahan (Tom) of Yucaipa, Eve Ellsworth (David) of Yucaipa, Joy Lynne Fischer (Henk) of Redlands, and Danielle Riddle of Redlands. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild and one great grandchild on the way.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018. The service will be at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 12776 Sixth St., Yucaipa. Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Yucaipa is in charge of arrangements.
