Dorothy Ann Wallin

October 23, 1917 — June 2, 2011

Dorothy Ann Wallin, age 93, of Yucaipa, California died Thursday, June 2, 2011. Dorothy was born October 23, 1917 in Oyens, Iowa to Peter and Josephine (Hames) Feller. She grew up in the Oyens and LeMars area. Dorothy graduated from high school in LeMars. On May 25, 1940, Dorothy married Howard Dale Wallin. Eight children were born to the couple. They raised their family in Iowa, South Dakota, and California. From the beginning, theirs was a true partnership. Dorothy was the bookkeeper for Howard s manufacturing business. As the family grew and took more of her time, she devoted herself to caring for her family, which for her included using her many creative talents - making beautiful clothes for special occasions, baking sumptuous treats, upholstering furniture, producing hand crafted gifts, and decorating her home with a flair. Dorothy could whip up lunch for twenty on a moment s notice using whatever she had on hand effortlessly. The family enjoyed years of vacation fishing trips in Minnesota, road trips and picnics. Once her children were grown, Dorothy worked for a time as a cook and restaurant manager and later in the fabric and sewing department of a major department store. After retirement, Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, painting, and making crafts with Howard. She loved family gatherings and sharing time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a sweet and loving grandmother who loved cooking, baking cookies, reading stories, playing cards, and taking trips with the family. Dorothy lost her beloved Howard Bud in 2002. Dorothy loved God and was a devout member of the Catholic Church. She prayed the rosary daily for her family. Dorothy is survived by one son, Kenneth (Cheryl) Wallin of Rose Hill, Kansas; five daughters: Rosemary (Phil) Treinen of Tucson, AR; Karen (Richard) MacCutcheon of Albuquerque, NM; Beverly Mack Sullivan of Temecula, CA; Joyce Raskin of Brooklyn, NY; and Carol Taian of Yucaipa, CA; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Dorothy was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Howard; her two sons, Alan and Ronald; two brothers, Joe and Pete Feller; and two sisters, Rose Schilmoeller and Marcella Dugan. THE TIME IS NOW If you are ever going to love me, Love me now, while I can know The sweet and tender feelings Which from true affection flow. Love me now While I am living, Do not wait until I m gone And then have it chiseled in marble, Sweet words on ice-cold stone. If you have tender thoughts of me, Please tell me now, If you wait until I m sleeping, Never to awaken, There will be death between us, And I won t hear you then. So, if you love me, even a little bit, Let me know it while I am living So I can treasure it.
