Eleanor Lucile Ragan Dombrowski was born September 19, 1934 at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena California. She was born to Elkan Valentine Ragan, a police motorcycle Sargent and Dorris Lucile Strawn Ragan, a homemaker and former Secretary. Eleanor grew up in Pasadena with her sister Arlene Joyce Ragan Gibbs until the family moved to Balboa Island in the 40's. She attended Newport Beach elementary, riding the school bus or her Bicycle accross the ferry boat and hown the ocean front walk to school. She attended Newport Harbor Union High School, where she received the American Legion Citizenship Award and Lion Speech Contest Award. She was active in a lot of after school sports , drama, choir, girls glee club. She worked as a waitress at the Jolly Roger from age 13 until graduation from college, eventually being an assistant to the owner. In 1952 she attended UCLA with a major in nursing. Her class was the second to graduate under a new 4 year nursing program with a BS degree and PHN degree - attending the University as well as special nursing classes at various local hospitals under the supervisor of UCLA Nursing faculty members. Eleanor pledged Alpha Chi Omega Society serving as Pledge President and Sorority President in her Junior year. In her senior year she met medical student Edmund T. Dombrowski, Jr. and they were married September 14, 1957 at the Westwood Community Methodist Church. After 4 years at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota the family settled in Redlands, California in 1963. In 1969 the family joined the LDS Church where she served in the Young Womens Organization, Primary, and Relief Society. For 8 years she served as the nurse for Girls Camp, organized dances for the youth with live bands and worked with the youth on the Stake Activities Committee. "A Little bit of Heaven" in her words, she loved the teenagers and her association with them. Eleanor is survived by her children Mark (Lorna) Dombrowsk, Kathleen Dombrowski, Linda Dombrowski, Deborah (Greg) Pry, and dauighter in law Jeanine Dombrowski Draney; grandchildren Rachael, Rebecca, Jenny, Steven, Kaylan, Kendall, Amelia, Megan, and Porter ; Sister Arlene (Glenn) Gibbs; Brother in Law Stephan (Nancy) Dombrowski; Niece Jill Gibbs Love; Nephews David and Michael Gibbs and Christopher, Tim, Steven, and Todd Dombrowski. Eleanor was preceeded in death by her son Edmund Dombrowski III as well as her parents and mother and father in law. Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the Wabash building located at 350 Wabash on Friday June 25th at 10:00 AM. Interment will be immediately following at Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands.
