Eugene (Gene) M. Chivas, 83, of Yucaipa, died Friday, October 18, 2013. He was born in Huntington Park, California on April 17, 1930 to the late James Eugene and Adella Rea Pillsbury Chivas. He attended Fremont High School in Los Angeles. He served in the Navy both in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from Circuit City, he was a volunteer firefighter and first responder for Wilaka, Florida Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a volunteer policeman for the Fresno and La Verne police departments. He was also a member of numerous service organizations. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motorhome. They were able to travel coast to coast across the United States and Canada. He was preceded in death by his brother Melvin Chivas. He is survived by his wife Martha Chivas: his two sisters; Lorraine Peters of Golden Valley, Arizona and Adella Schliefert of Portola, California; his children; Carol Mann of Henderson, Nevada; Mearl Chivas of Redlands, California, Donna Acosta of San Gabriel, and Robert Chivas of Alta Loma, California; eight grandchildren and a large extended family. A Military Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:15am at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
