WORLD WAR II VET PASSES
F. Charles (Chuck) Barnett passed away peacefully at his home on May 27, 2021 at the age of 98. Born on March 8, 1923, he was raised in Hollywood, California. After graduating from Fairfax High School in 1942, he enlisted in the US Navy. He served four years in the South Pacific, assigned to maintain and operate Higgins Boats.
In 1951, he married Lois Von Wald, and died just before celebrating their 70th Anniversary. They first lived in Torrance before moving to Redlands in 1962. He was self-employed as a dairy products distributor until his retirement in 1993.
Chuck enjoyed traveling and golf, and was a member of the Redlands-Yucaipa Golf Group, continuing to golf into his 90s.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and his daughters Debbie Polhemus (Steve) and Janine Honda (Mason), as well as four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. Donations can be made to Hospice c/o Redlands Community Hospital.
