Fern Mae Mittan

February 15, 1923 — January 19, 2013

Fern Mae Mittan Feb 15th, 1923 Jan 19th, 2013 Fern Mittan, 89, passed away January 19th, 2013 at her home at Wildwood Canyon Villa in Yucaipa CA. She is survived by Wesley Mittan, her husband of 60 years who celebrated his 94th birthday on January 15. Fern is also survived by her daughter Judy and son-in-law John Toone. Fern had two grandchildren, Chris and his wife Cathie and their daughter Julia. Heather and her husband Mike have two daughters, Kate and Abby. All live in the Seattle Washington area. Fern will also be missed by her nieces, Ann, Merle and Dottie. Fern was born Feb 15th, 1923 in Ogden Utah. After attending high school, she traveled the country during World War II as a sales person. She formed many lifelong friendships during that time and always spoke fondly of that adventure. The untimely death of her mother in 1944, called her home to Pocatello Idaho to help her sister Dorothy care for their father. During that time she met and married her first husband, Ed Erickson. Their daughter Judy was born in 1946. Following a divorce, Fern met and married Wesley Mittan. It obviously was a great choice. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past October. Fern and Wes continued to live in Pocatello where friends and family were close and her sister Dorothy s great cooking was never far away. Fern and Wes always had a love of dancing and became expert square dancers; a passion they continued to pursue in Southern California where they moved after Wes s retirement in 1984. They have lived in the Calimesa area the past 28 years, moving to Wildwood Canyon Villa in Yucaipa this past year. They have formed many close friends over the years through their neighborhood, square dancing and volunteer work. The family wishes to especially thank the Shermans, the Wilsons, the Hawkins, the staff at Wildwood Canyon Villa and the Vitas hospice staff who have been so helpful and thoughtful during this difficult time. Fern will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan 25th at 1pm at Desert Lawn Memorial Park at 11251 Desert Lawn Drive, Calimesa, CA. A reception with refreshments will be held after the service at Wildwood Canyon Villa at 33951 Colorado Street, Yucaipa.
