Fred Hawkins Jr. died May 26, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a resident of Yucaipa for 34 years.
He was born in Port Townsend, Washington Mar. 2, 1944. He grew up in southern California, graduating from Sierra High School in Whittier. He served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years stationed at Pearl Harbor.
He studied Ornamental Horticulture, graduating with a degree in Park Management from Cal Poly, Pomona
He was employed as Park Superintendent for the City of Claremont; former director of Parks, Recreation and Libraries at the City of Palm Springs; worked for the Yucaipa-Calimesa JUSD as Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation; subsequently working for and retiring from the City of Yucaipa as Maintenance Manager.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Yucaipa First Ward, where he enjoyed serving in various capacities. His passion and greatest joy was researching, teaching and assisting people with their genealogy and serving as an ordinance worker in the Redlands Temple.
Fred was preceded in death by his son, Derrick K. Hawkins, and granddaughter, Addison P. Trotter. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sherran Hawkins of Yucaipa; two daughters, Shannon Noelle Trotter (Ed) of Vista, CA and Denise Michelle Greenhalgh of Vista, CA , 6 grandchildren, Kristy, Jase, Tanner, Tarryn (Tony), Tiana (Matt), Tessa and 1 great grandchild (Camden) with 2 on the way. He precedes his brother, Richard Louis Hawkins (Laura) and two sisters, Roberta Joann Daniels and Glenda Darlene Pierce.
Services will be held on Saturday June 2 @ 10 a,m, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1761 Fifth Ave, Redlands. Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles.
