Frederic Glen Hoss Born January 7, 1921 Departed this life January 9, 2012 Frederic Glen Hoss of Redlands formerly of Hawthorne died Monday, January 9, 2012 at his home in Redlands. Internment is scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2012, 11:30 a.m. at the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA next to his wife Lois and parents Grace and Ollie Hoss, Sr. A Celebration of Life for Fred will be held Sunday, January 22, 2012, from Noon-4:00 p.m. at the University of Redlands, Redlands, CA. We ll share stories and pictures, kick tires and tell tales of the times we ve shared with Fred. Fred was born January 7, 1921 to Ollie L. and Grace (Steadman) Hoss in Great Bend, KS. In 1932 the family moved from KS to CA in a 1928 Chevrolet Touring Car. He was the oldest of two children. He married his wife of 56 years, Lois (Glenn) on April 5, 1942. Lois preceded him in death on March 13, 1998. When WW II was declared, he enlisted in the Navy serving his country as a Machinist s Mate until he was honorably discharged in 1945. Fred worked for the Los Angeles City, Department of Water and Power helping build the generators at the Hoover Dam. After 33 years of employment as a machinist with the City of Los Angeles he retired in 1983. Fred was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, a 40 yr member of the Southern California Model T Club, and since 1999 a member of the San Fernando Valley Model T Club. Among his hobbies were working at his most loved milling machine and lathe. He designed, machined and built each of his children and grandchildren miniature steam engines. After his retirement he and Lois toured in their Model T Ford to Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and various towns and cities throughout the United States. He is survived by his children, Martha (Don) of Arkansas City, KS and John (Debra) of Redlands. Brother, Ollie (Jan) of Bakersfield, CA. Grandchildren, Michelle of Tulsa, OK, Gregory (Julie) of Spring Grove, IL, Brian (Emma), Keith and Kevin (Nicole) all of Redlands, CA. Great-grandchildren, Alanna, Salina KS, Gracie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kyle of Redlands, CA; and Jacob and Alexis of Spring Grove, IL. Great-great-grandchildren, Harlen of Redlands, CA; MiKaylah and Jadalyn both of Salina, KS; and dear friend and traveling companion Clara Jo Ostergren, Northridge, CA. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and his parents Ollie and Grace Hoss. A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association or charity of gifters choice.
