On Tuesday, December 12, Gene Price passed away peacefully here at Plymouth Village, under the love and care of PV Team Members. Gene was born in humble circumstances on March 5, 1922, in the back hills of West Virginia. Her family was very poor and her mother would give Gene and her little brother Fred up for adoption. Fortunately a wonderful, loving couple: Henry and Nel Bremer adopted Gene and her brother. Fred and Gene ended up having a very happy childhood. Gene would fall in love and marry a fine young military hero named Steven Wilke. Steven would begin and career as a businessman and together Steven and Gene had a son, who they named Stephan. In 1954 they moved to southern California for business and would settle in Redlands, CA. Gene would soon give birth to a daughter and name her Letitia. Gene and her little family loved Redlands! They would become members at Trinity Episcopal Church and participated in all the good things that Redlands had to offer.
Gene would eventually become a social worker and also served at the Smiley Library. After the children grew up, Gene became more and more involved with Mental Health issues and concerns, fellowshipping with a great number of fellow social and mental health workers locally and regionally. Gene always shared and deep concern about social issues and the plight of the human condition and engaged in discussions and work into how to make the Redlands community the best it could be. She loved playing bridge and a number of other table games. Eventually her husband, Steven, would pass away.
Gene eventually made friends with a man named Channon Price. They would marry and enjoy travelling to many places around the country. Henry and Nel Bremer (Gene’s parents) also moved here to Redlands. Gene so enjoyed having them close by as they grew old. The Bremers would both pass away here in Redlands and would be interred up at Hillside Memorial Park. After Gene’s second husband, Channon, passed away, Gene would move into Plymouth Village Retirement Community in April 2008. She was pleased to remain here in her beloved Redlands and to remain near her daughter. She is survived by her son: Stephan and his family, living back in Tennessee; and her daughter: Letitia and her family, living here in Redlands.
We will hold a Hymn and a Prayer in Gene’s honor and memory this Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 10 AM here in our Chapel, in the Village. Everyone is welcome to attend.
