Army Specialist George David Nerio Sr., 68, died of natural causes in Sugarloaf, CA on February 11, 2018. George was a Military Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as an Infantryman and earning many accolades for his active ground combat.
George was born on February 11, 1950 in Redlands, CA. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles before joining the Army. After returning from the war, George worked as an electronics technician while going to school to become an automotive mechanic. George had a combined 35 years of service with LA Metro as a diesel mechanic before retiring in 2014.
George was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Camping, fishing, and barbecuing were his favorite past times. He also restored quite a few Volkswagen bugs and buses over the years.
George is survived by his five sons, George Jr., David, Manuel (Manny), Jared, and Matthew; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his sister Lisa Detwiler. George was married twice and is survived by both Adela Santistevan (married 1970 - 1975), and Maureen (Moe) Nerio (married 1978 - 2017). He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Clara Nerio and his elder brother, James (Jimmy) Nerio.
George’s life will be honored at Riverside National Cemetery on February 28, 2018 at 12:45pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life.
