Georgie Peterson Lyons

March 14, 1925 — January 23, 2016

Georgie Peterson Lyons, 90 years of age, passed away January 23, 2016 at her daughter's home in Alta Loma, California.

Georgie was born on March 14, 1925 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the daughter of William Andrew Peterson and Inella Augusta Kunz Peterson.  She was raised on the family Peterson's sheep ranch in Idaho Falls, which was later lost during our country's Great Depression of the 1930's.  During her teenage years, Georgie lived with her Aunt Della and Uncle Henry Olsen in Brigham City, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School. In Utah, Georgie met and married Benjamin Francis Lyons, originally from New York City, New York.  They were married on May 28, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Georgie and Ben moved to Long Beach, California where they purchased a house on 7th Street.  In 1947, using their home's front living room, they opened Georgie's Tropical Fish Store.  Georgie ran and maintained the fish store for the next 46 years, finally closing its doors in 1993.  Besides raising and selling tropical fish, Georgie had a variety of hobbies including knitting and making jewelry from beads and semi-precious stones.  For many years she was a member and office holder in the Long Beach Questing Heirs Genealogical Society while she researched her many family branches.

Georgie is survived by her daughter and her husband, Leslie and Alan Ford, and her son, Craig B. Lyons.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Francis Lyons in 1993 and two daughters, Marie Josephine Lyons and Julie Lynn Lyons.

Georgie will be buried next to her Father and Mother, William and Inella Peterson at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, Redlands, California.
