Geraldine Joyce Brown

Geraldine (Gerry) Joyce Brown was born Feb. 5, 1931 in Hillman, Michigan. She graduated from Atlanta Michigan High School in 1948. Gerry was well known as an athlete and could catch anything her brothers could throw. She then attended Central Michigan University and received a BA degree in Education. After graduation she taught school in Japan and Scotland. Upon moving back to the States she settled in Yucaipa, California where her parents and brother Robert and his family lived.
Gerry was baptized Catholic on Nov. 17th, 1962 and gave her heart in service to the community of St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church in Yucaipa for over 40 years. She continued to teach in LA and San Bernardino in both public schools and Catholic schools upon her move to Yucaipa until her retirement from teaching. After retiring from teaching she worked from Feb. 1980 – March 1991 for the San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association. After retirement she served her God faithfully. She was instrumental in beginning and leading both the Stephen Ministry and the Library Ministry at St. Frances X. Cabrini Church where her smile and love for God will be dearly missed. 
Gerry died peacefully on July 9, 2018 in Calimesa, California. She was preceded in death by her parents Aileen Hunt Brown and Jess Brown, sisters Ida Brown, Adelaide Tortora, and brothers Robert and Harold (Joe). Gerry is survived by brothers Richard of Hillman, Michigan and Charles (Mag) of Sparta, Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Gerry loved her God, her church, serving others, her friends and family, classical music, opera, PBS, children, teaching, coffee, chocolate, and burgers -  not necessarily in that order.

Vigil Service - Monday, July16th, 6pm, at Emmerson Bartlett Mortuary, Yucaipa.
Mass of Resurrection - Tuesday, July 17th, 10am, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Yucaipa
Burial and graveside - Desert Lawn Cemetery.
