Gilbert "Guy" Manzano

September 1, 1946 — February 26, 2025

Highland

Gilbert Torrez Manzano, 78, passed away at home in Highland, CA on February 26, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 1, 1946 in Redlands, CA, to Thomas and Trinidad Manzano and remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. After graduating from Redlands High School, Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country in Schweinfurt, Germany, until 1967.

After his military service, Gilbert—known as "Gil" by colleagues—began a career in the grocery industry, working for Alpha Beta. After more than a decade with the supermarket chain, he transitioned to American National Insurance before spending more than 34 years at Oroweat Bread Company. Gilbert built and maintained lasting friendships throughout his life everywhere he worked.

Though he spent much of his life in Highland, Gilbert always considered Redlands his true home. He spoke fondly of the city and its community, making it a fitting place for his family to celebrate his life. He is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Trini Manzano, sisters Antonia Rodriguez, Dionisia Gutierrez, and Natividad Lopez.

Gilbert touched many lives and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Helen Manzano; his sons, Gilbert (Tim) Manzano and Paul (Michelle) Manzano; his stepsons, Milo Alcala and David Jacobo; his stepdaughters, Lisa and Rene Jacobo; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters, Andrea “Nena” Velarde and Jennie Olivarez; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. His legacy will continue through the lives of his entire family, especially his grandson Anthony Manzano, and Anthony’s two daughters, Mia and Aubree Manzano—his “two little apples”—who are the last to carry the Manzano name.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel (703 Brookside Ave, Redlands, CA), followed by a reception at 2:00 PM at the American Legion Post 650 (1532 Church Street, Redlands, CA).

Those who knew Gilbert well knew he was a diehard Rams and Dodgers fan. To honor his passion, his family invites guests to wear Dodgers or Rams colors or gear if they choose.
