March 2, 1929 — March 12, 2015

J. Robert West, M. D. beloved husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully away at home on March 12, 2015. He was affectionately known as "Dr. Bob" by his staff and coworkers, many with whom he practiced medicine over the last 50 years as a Dermatologist in Redlands and the surrounding areas. He was a kind and considerate physician who had a sincere concern for his patients and staff. His sunny disposition and keen sense of humor endeared him to many. During this time he established West Dermatology which joined with LVSC and became a large medical corporation which at one time comprised nearly 25 offices in California, Idaho, Arizona, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Nevada as well as West Dermatology Pathology Laboratory. He was on the medical staffs of Redlands Community Hospital, Loma Linda Hospital and Saint Bernardine Hospital. He was active in a variety of medical organizations and societies. As a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), he served on the board as Chair of Investments Committee and received the Humanitarian Citation for Charitable Service for the medical care he and his sons provided to a small town in Mexico. He was a member of the Noah Worcester Dermatology Society and served a term as President and on the board and several committees for over 50 years. He graduated from Stanford where he also received his medical degree. He continued in his training in a residency at the Mayo Clinic in Dermatology. He passed his boards and became certified in Dermatology and later passed the boards in Dermatopathology. During these years as a student he kept up his hobby in music by playing the saxophone in local jazz, dance and stage bands as well as piano. As an Eagle Scout, he was very supportive of the scouting programs and served as Chairman of the Grayback District. He received the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his outstanding service in the California Inland Empire Council. He was a member of the Redlands Rotary Club and supported many of the worthy projects of that organization. He served his country in the Army National Guard for nearly 12 years as a Major in the Medical Corps and received an Honorable discharge in 1964. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many leadership capacities. He is survived by a loving family who revere him as a husband and father. He was the devoted husband of his wife Donna Hatch West for 57 years. Together, they raised ten children, all who were raised in Redlands. John West, M.D. Mystic, Connecticut; Andrew West, M.D. Anchorage, Kentucky; Jenny Miner, Redlands, California; Stephen West, M.D. Yucaipa, California; Jill Van Slooten, La Canada, California; Stewart West, M.D. Highland, Utah; Julia Dorius, Ladera Ranch, California; Jeannine Peart, Gilbert, Arizona; Jayne Cluff, Gilbert, Arizona; Janelle Sommer, Glendora, California.
