Jacob James Carritte age 28,

"Jake" of Redlands California passed away May 18, 2023.

Jake was born on October 25, 1994 in Redlands CA. He was a bright inquisitive child who loved books, singing and acting. He and his sister would create stories and costumes and put on shows. His friends remember him for his goofy antics, loving kindness, and radiant smile. He took piano lessons for many years and won awards at the Bach competition and young musicians competition at CSUSB. Later he studied the guitar and enjoyed composing electronic music. Jake had tremendous compassion for others and a special love for animals.

Jake attended Redlands Adventist Academy from K-12 from where he graduated in 2013. He was active in sports and played flag football, cross country and his favorite, soccer. He earned his BS in Biology from La Sierra University in 2021, which he started at UCSD. While at UCSD he joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. At the time of his passing, he was attending Loma Linda University in a Masters program in Health Informatics in which he found a new passion.

Jake faced life challenges that were beyond his control. He struggled with substance use as an adult until his untimely passing May 18, 2023.

He is survived by his parents Drs James and Deborah Carritte and sister Madeline Carritte. There is a memorial service for Jake on 6/3/23 at 5:30pm at Loma Linda University Church.

Although his life was tragically cut short, Jake will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

In Jake’s memory, the family is establishing a program to provide research, education and support for individuals and families experiencing substance use challenges.
