JAMES (JIM) HOLVAR ANDERSON February 11, 1915 - January 11, 2012 James Holvar Anderson passed away January11, 2012 in Chandler, Arizona. He was born to Arthur Melvin Anderson and Cora Kelley Anderson in Janesville Wisconsin on February 11, 1915. He graduated from Beloit High School in 1933. Jobs were scarce in Beloit Wisconsin so, with the promise of a job and an aunt and uncle to live with, he hopped a freight train bound for California arriving with 7 dollars in his pocket. He began working for Safeway Grocery Stores in Los Angeles. He spent his entire career in the grocery business and was the youngest store manager Safeway ever had. His career was interrupted when he served in WWII as an Army Supply Sergeant in 1945-46 with duty assignments in Camp Roberts and Korea. After his military service, Jim completed an Associate degree in business from Los Angeles City College. Jim married Belva Irene Booth in 1939 in Glendale, California. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2002. Jim retired in 1971 at the age of 56. His retirement included helping Belva at Belva s Style Shop in Yucaipa, being at sport/music events his great grandchildren were involved in, volunteer work, fishing, gardening and travel. His travel included visits, by car, to all 50 U.S. states, all the provinces in Canada and all states in Mexico. Jim and Belva had two children. Jim is survived by; his daughter Correne Grady and husband Charles of Chandler Arizona. Grandchildren, Kristy Anderson and husband Scott of Riverside, California; Jeffrey Lane and wife Pam of Yorba Linda, California; Kelly Page of Mesa, Arizona and Timothy Lane and wife Julie of Mount Vernon, Washington. He is also survived by his son Melvin Anderson and wife Monica of Yucaipa, California and grandchildren Jill Craig and husband Tony of Fresno, California; Mark Anderson of Bakersfield, California; Jennifer Dunlap and husband Jerry of Canyon Country, California; and Stacy Anderson Price and husband, Doug of Canyon Country, California. Twenty-one great-grand children and five great-great grand children are blessed by his legacy and will also miss him. Jim s interment will be held a 10a.m., January 20 at the National Cemetery in Riverside, California. Pastor Stacy Smith will preside over the honors military ceremony and the memorial service that follows at 11:30a.m. at, Jim s home church, Valley Baptist Fellowship, 12323 Fifth Street, Yucaipa, California 92399. Flowers should be sent to the church and donations in his name should be directed to Hospice of the Valley C/o Lund Family Hospice Home 1982 E. Woodside Court, Gilbert AZ 85297-7333.
