JAMES ("JIM") M. NELSON Age 81, of Loma Linda, California, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Born in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late James M. and Helen (Williams) Nelson. Jim graduated high school in West Chester, PA, and attended college at both Temple University in Phila., PA as well as the University of Arizona, where he earned his degree in Electronics. Jim also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Thereafter, Jim was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency; Department of Transportation, where he retired after 31 years of service as an electronics technician. Always endeavoring to preserve its integrity, Jim molded a firm stance in community activism, for which he was likewise honored. Post retirement, Jim enjoyed notable success within the entertainment industry, fulfilling a variety of pursuits as both a model and actor. He also enjoyed tennis, music, exercise and a healthy sense of humor. Most memorable, however, upon seeing that special twinkle in his eye, is Jim's pristine demonstration of high quality living, because as he loved, he was and will be forever cherished, and loved, by many. From his union in 1960 to Sallie Nelson who predeceased him on July 20, 2011, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa Nelson (David)-Smith; grandson, Joel McGriff (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Jasmine & Ryan McGriff; as well as sisters, Mary Byers (CA), Bea Smith (PA), Doris Lett (CA), Helen "Didi" Townsend (Pa), Viola Benson (PA), Ruthann Crabb (GA), Gloria McCrarey (AZ), Virginia Grisham (GA), Eloise Lawrence (PA), and brother, Leon "Billy" Nelson (CA). He was predeceased by brothers, Donald, Ernie and Bobby. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am. Both, at the Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Avenue, Redlands, CA 92373. Interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 10:45 am.
