James Roy Gilford

January 13, 1951 — February 11, 2019

The heavens rejoiced on February 11, 2019 as the skies parted and allowed a favored Son, James Gilford to enter into his promised rest.

Born “James Roy Gilford” in Houston, Texas on January 13, 1951 to the late Delores Kemp Gilford and James Daniel Gilford. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized during his early years in Los Angeles, California. James graduated from Jefferson High School in 1969. Thereafter, he was blessed with his first son. Years later he united in marriage to Connie Gilford on December 9, 1977, and of this union, two children were born. 

James began his career with the United States Postal Service in 1970. During his career with the United States Postal Service, he took a brief leave of absence to serve in the United States Navy. He returned to the United States Postal Service and worked 42 years before retiring from the United States Postal Service in 2013. James received numerous awards and rose through the ranks during his career with the United States Postal Service.

James loved people, to travel, and lived his life to the fullest. He had a great personality, was a very generous man, and befriended everyone he came into contact with. James loved watching and attending basketball games. His all time favorite team was the LA Lakers. James was a very hard worker and honest man, traits he passed on to his loving children and grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by both parents Delores Kemp Gilford and James Daniel Gilford; both sets of grandparents Beatrice Harris Gilford and Kirt Gilford, and Mary Alexander Delahousaye and Arthur Delahousaye; and grandchild Crystal Angel Gilford. 

James leaves behind to cherish in his memory, his loving wife Connie Gilford; his brother Charles Alexander; his children Andre Lamont Gilford, Rodgel Jamar Gilford, Jameka Monea Gilford and son-in-law Alex Eapen; grandchildren Shelton Shawn Gilford, Ashlee Gilford, Tavianna Gilford, and Caila Aleece Gilford; and great grandchild Journey Jada Gilford. James also leaves to mourn nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. 

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10:00am at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands, CA  92373
