Jean Dora Gaerte passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Loma Linda Hospital, after a short but intense battle with her heart.
She and her husband, Glen, resided the last seventeen years in Colton, California.
Jean was born in Amherst, Ohio on June 23, 1948 to Glenn and Margaret Feakins. She was the second daughter of four girls. The family moved to Anaheim, California from Ohio in 1954. Jean attended Fremont Junior High and graduated from Anaheim High School in 1967, where she played the clarinet in the band all six years. She also attended Fullerton Community College.
Jean met the love of her life, Glen, in her senior year at Anaheim High School in 1966. They married in 1969 at Anaheim First Christian Church. Jean and Glen moved to Oregon for optometry schooling in 1970, then Kansas for Glen’s service in the Air Force; they returned to Anaheim in 1977, where they raised their children, Scott and Rebecca. They moved to Colton in March 2002.
Jean led an active life volunteering. She served as a candy striper in high school, at her children’s elementary school and worked at Adelaide Price Elementary. She was a Girl Scout and a Girl Scout Leader, soccer coach, Sunday school teacher, member of the PTA, dance mom, Katella Band Booster, choir member at AFCC, and volunteered at CHOC hospital. Jean enjoyed sewing her children’s clothes, costumes and knitting. She made many trips to Mexico for Amor Ministries to help build homes. She was the lead for the food supply, preparation and serving for the team. She belonged to the Women’s Club of Rialto.
Jean traveled with her husband, family and friends on camping trips to Yosemite over several years. She and Glen traveled to England, Switzerland, and Alaska/Canada. She enjoyed travel to Colorado to visit grandchildren.
Jean had an open and caring heart, and received everyone with open arms. She wanted to take care of everyone’s needs, from housing, meals, haircuts and perms. She was a giving person; a great joy of hers was to share and give gifts, especially to her grandchildren. She loved being involved with them as much as she could. The last few years were difficult due to her health, but she wrapped her love around the family as much as she could.
Jean was a member of Sunrise Church in Rialto and home group Bible Study for the past 9 years.
Jean was proceeded in death by her father, Glenn Feakins, mother, Margaret Feakins, and older sister, Margaret Greedy. She is survived by her husband, Glen Gaerte; two children, son Scott Gaerte (spouse Candis), and daughter Rebecca Gaerte Cannon; her sisters Raenell Feakins Liggett and Elaine Feakins Wright (spouse Spencer); sister-in-law Dee Gaerte Killebrew (spouse Kent); 3 grandchildren, Emilia Gaerte, Callan Gaerte, and Eva Cannon; 10 nieces and nephews, Paul Greedy, Kurt Greedy, Timothy Liggett, Tamara Greenleaf, Meghan Liggett, Thomas Liggett, Maughra Conkey, Michele Robinson, Michelle Martin and Michael Killebrew.
She will be remembered for her love, kindness, humor, generosity, warmth, intelligence, and the love and passion she had for her family. Her love for the Lord permeated her life, and she is now in His care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to World Vision or Safe Harbor at Anaheim First Christian Church.
