Jedon & Patricia Emenhiser

Two incredible people passed from this life and are greatly missed by those left on earth. JeDon Allen Emenhiser, born May 19, 1933, in Clovis, New Mexico to Glen and Opal Emenhiser and Patricia Ellen Burke Emenhiser born November 15, 1932 in San Bernardino, California to James and Vera Burke. Jae passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2022 and Pat followed a week later on August 5, 2022.

Jae and Pat met in the seventh grade in Banning, California and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in January 2022.

Jae and Pat traveled extensively all over the world taking their family with then on many adventures. Often, Jae managed to combine work and pleasure abroad. Their grandchildren have special memories of living in foreign countries with Grandma and Popa. Grandson DJ attended 10th grade traveling with them to Galway, Ireland. Granddaughter Katie accompanied them to Brussels, Belgium attending 7th grade. Granddaughter Amanda accompanied them to the Netherlands. Exceptional bike tours along the Danube for daughter Lisa and son-in-law David on their 40th birthdays.

Jae served on the faculty of the University of Redlands, Utah State University, Colgate University, Cal Poly Humboldt and Junior State Summer School (Stanford University) teaching American politics and culture, constitutional law, and research methods. He received Fulbright professorships to the University of Saigon, Viet Nam, and to the Universite de Mons, Belgium. In addition, he was staff director of the Legislative Study Committee of the Utah Legislature, visiting scholar at the Congressional Research Service, visiting professor for the University of Utah in Europe at Ramstein Air Base, and visiting professor in the inter-university American Studies master’s program in Belgium.

Jae retired as Professor Emeritus in 2009 from Cal Poly Humboldt.

Pat was a member of Chapter TD P.E.O. Eureka, CA and former member of Chapter U, Logan, UT.

Jae and Pat were active in First Presbyterian Church of Logan, Utah and later with First Presbyterian Church of Eureka, California.

Jae and Pat recently relocated to Long Beach, CA to be near their family.

Jae and Pat are survived by daughter, Lisa Emenhiser Westerfield (David), grandson David Westerfield (Sophie), granddaughter, Kaitlin Gorman (Daniel), granddaughter Amanda Piercy (Grant) and great grandson Henry Gorman.
