John O. Castaneda, 98
John O. Castaneda, 98 of Rialto, California (formerly resided in Chino, Pomona & Redlands) passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2017 with family by his side.
John was a proud WWII Veteran who served in the Army & Seabees. He was a hardworking man who was very knowledgeable & experienced in different types of construction. After working for various construction companies, he formed his own company: J.O. Castaneda & Sons. After closing his company, he went to work for the State of California Dept. of Corrections Youth Authority as a vocational instructor. He retired well into his eighties which was a true testament of his hard work and dedication.
John was a man who was dedicated to taking care of his family at an early age. At the age of 15 he had to quit school to help earn money for his Mother & family and never stopped working since then. He went back to school to earn his GED & his teaching credentials.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life Dawn Marie, they raised 9 children together. He is survived by his children & their spouses: son Gil & Carolina Castaneda, son John Jr. & Barbara Castaneda, daughter Marta Shores & Perry Harper, daughter Irene & Ricky McKinney, daughter Marie & Eddie Garnica, son Mark Castaneda, son Paul Castaneda, Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren & the last of his siblings: brother, Maggie Luna.
The family would like to thank Pacifica – Riverside, Delta Hospice and Dr. Dao & staff at San Bernardino Medical Group for all there wonderful care and assistance.
Viewing & prayer service on Thursday, 6/22/17 11am at the Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands, CA 92373. Private interment at later date.
