John Damon Savage, 96, Yucaipa , California , died Feb 2, 2015 of natural causes, at the Brasswell's Hampton Manor. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday February 11th at Oakdale Memorial Park, Glendora, California. John will be laid to rest beside his wife Mary , who passed in 2006. John was born September 9th, 1918 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Damon Savage and Gwendolyn Batty Savage. The family moved to Oregon about 1922. John attended schools in various locations in Oregon, graduating with the class of 1937 in Bonanza, Oregon. He participated in several sports, including football, wrestling, track, and boxing. John was employed his senior year by the school district driving school bus. He drove 40 miles round trip. He also played in the Savage Family Band as well as worked on the family ranch. After John's graduation, the family moved to Nyssa, Oregon. This is where he met Mary Eva Haroldsen, and was married on July 29, 1939. They resided in Nyssa Oregon and Boise Idaho, before moving to California in 1956. To this union were born 5 children, all of whom preceded him in death. John had many vocations in life, farmer, house shingler (roofer), musician, bookkeeper, and carpenter. He was aboy scout leader for several years. But most of all, he loved his family including his grandchildren. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1941. Over the years, he held many jobs in the church including teacher, counselor, and bishop, but his very favorite position in the church was playing the piano for the primary children. Survivors include 3 brothers, David Lloyd Savage of Burley, Idaho; Donald Charles Savage of Fruitland, Idaho; William Dennis Savage of Nyssa, Oregon; grandchildren, Jeff, Jennifer, Steve, Kent, Michael, Kelly & Karrie, and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and their 5 children, Barbara, Robert, Doug, Debra, and Janet Martha. His sisters Elsie Ilene, Laura, June, and his brother James Andrew.
