John Galen Mccue

John Galen McCue, son of John Willis McCue and Elna F. (Edgington) McCue, was born at Ong, Nebraska, June 09. 1912. He passed away July 09, 2010 at Yucaipa, California At the age of five, Galen, as he was called in his younger years, moved with his parents and older sister to Creston, Iowa, where he lived for seventeen more years, graduating from Creston High School and attending the Junior college there. On February 10, 1934, he was married at Winterset, Iowa, to Iola Gertrude Ruckman of Afton, Iowa. In 1935 the young couple moved to Fairfield, Iowa, where he was employed as a draftsman by the Louden Machinery Co. In 1940 the couple moved to Downey, California, where he was employed by Vulteen Aircraft, Inc. as a layout man. Their first year, Galen changed jobs to Northrop Aircraft Co. in the Engineering Department. At that time he found it advantageous to go by his first name, John, as everyone was calling him Mac . During those war years, John took evening courses in engineering offered by University of California. Although this did not lead to an engineering degree, he did qualify for a California Professional Engineer s License. He specialized in structure design and was involved in the development of military aircraft at Northrop. On May 20, 1948 his second son, Phillip Michael was born. Later, John worked as spacecraft at Rockwell and TRW and on commercial aircraft at Douglas. In 1971, John returned to Northrop, where he retired April 1st, 1978, moving to Yucaipa, California, where he resides until his passing. He was active in the sport of shuffleboard, serving three years as president of Executive Shuffleboard Club, one year as Vice President of California Shuffleboard Association, district 8 and four years as president of that district. John is survived by his wife, Leona, two sons, David of Irvine, CA and Philip of Spring, Texas, two stepdaughters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Wednesday July 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel 35208 Yucaipa Blvd, Yucaipa California 92399. Private Burial at Hillside Memorial Park, Redlands, California.
