John W. Staudt
John Windelin Staudt, beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away Dec. 23, 2015.
John was born in Teaneck, New Jersey March of 1930 to German Catholic immigrants. There, he grew up with his older brother Bill.
Upon graduating from Teaneck High, John continued his education at Drexel Institute of Technology, Philadelphia on a full ROTC scholarship and graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, later becoming a renowned specialist in metallurgy and heat treatment. Professional memberships included The Amercan Society of Metallurgical Engineers and The American Society of Engineers.
Out of college he served his country as an U.S. Army officer in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War.
While stationed there, John met his wife Eby Stewart, a school teacher on base. They settled in Southern California and raised six children. In 1968 they moved the family to Yucaipa where John became involved in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts (Troop 9 as a scout leader), the Optimist Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He was very active at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Upon his retirement, at the age of 65, John bicycled solo across the United States from Fort Stevens, Oregon to Virginia Beach, Virginia. This was an accomplishment he was very proud of for the rest of his life.
Dad enjoyed the views from his North Bench property - Yucaipa Valley, Oak Glen and the San Bernardino Valley. In his later years, he loved to watch the sunsets over Yucaipa, see it's colors resting on Mt. San Bernardino and follow the moon rise over Oak Glen until it was up amongst the stars. Dad loved his yard and his cat.
He is survived by his wife Eby; his six children: John, Jeanette, Mike, Julia, Anna, and Joe; three grand-daughters: Nicole, Kimberly and Annalise, and his faithful Mr. Cat.
John was a kind, gentle, quiet and humble man who touched and enriched many lives. He will be greatly missed
John Windelin Staudt, whether in photographs or conversations, will be preserved forever in our hearts and memories.
"A time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence
A time of confidences
Long ago it must be
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They're all that's left you. "
