Josephine Barbo

She was born Josephine June Ruiz, the sixth of seven children, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on July 30, 1935.  Josie, as she was known to everyone, was a gifted singer who participated in the community choir at an early age.  she met and married the dashing young airman, Alfredo Barbo, while he was stationed in Cheyenne in 1953.  Josie and Fred spent the next twenty years living in France, California, Texas, Montana and Puerto Rico.  They raised four children while serving in the Air Force.  When Fred retired from military life, the family moved to Redlands, California to be near relatives.  Josie spent the following years working for the school system as yard Duty staff, working with the elderly clients in a convelescent home as a nurse’s aide, and stepping in to take on another generation as a grandmother.  Having grown up in a Spanish Assembly of God household, Josie placed her faith in God as her first priority in life and her family’s needs a close second.  She was a long-time member of the Church on the Hill Assembly of God congregation in Redlands.  She served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, and occasionally gave a solo presentation. As the family’s prayer warrior, she witnessed many heavenly interventions in her children’s lives.  She died in her sleep May 2, 2017 at her home in Redlands.  She is survived by her husband 0f 63 years, Alfredo Barbo; her four children, Cynthia Greenwood, Alfred Barbo, Yvonne Barbo and Yvette Campbell; her nine grandchildren, Sarah Greenwood, Yolanda Lopez, Desiree Carter-Villalpando and her husband Matthew Villalpando, David AndreS Sandoval , Aaron Campbell, Alfred Jesus Campbell, wayne Campbell, Adrian Barbo, Danielle Crossland and lastly her seven great grandchildren; Jake Carter, Noah Carter, Marix Villalpando, Gavin Campbell,  Gage Garcia , Keegan Campbell and       Raymond Gray.  She leaves a legacy of love and will be greatly missed.   Funeral services will take place Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Church on the Hill, 1445 Ford St., Redlands, CA.  Viewing and visitation are offered at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  and end promptly at noon when a procession to Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Riverside, California will take place.  After a short farewell ceremony at the cemetary is held, the family invites everyone to attenD a reception to be held at the Church on the hill café activity room to begin sometime around 2:30 p.m.  The family thanks everyone for the flowers sent in memory of our Nana.  Please have them delivered to the Church on the hill, 1445 Ford St. Redlands, CA 92374.
