Joyce Yount Dangermond, lifetime resident of Redlands, died on April 28, 2022 at Pacific Pines surrounded by family.
She was 89 years old. Joyce was born on January 11, 1933, to Lloyd and Dorothy Yount, local citrus growers. Joyce graduated from Redlands High School in 1950, and attended Pomona College in Claremont.
She married Allen Dangermond in 1952 and instantly inherited a big family. Joyce enjoyed being a homemaker and mother to her three boys. Allen and Joyce purchased the family business, Dangermond’s Nursery, from Allen’s parents (Peter and Alice) in the early 1970s, and was involved in the business until their retirement in 1997. She was a member and supporter of Trinity Episcopal Church for many years.
Joyce was extremely active in civic events, doing volunteer and fundraising work for her class reunions, Bonnes Meres, and especially at Kimberly Crest. In her later years, she participated with friends in the April Morning Club. Joyce worked on several San Bernardino County committees to ensure proper land management of former orange groves for the future. Joyce was an avid bridge player and participated in several bridge groups in Redlands. Most people do not realize that she was also a talented pianist. She also loved to retreat to their condo in Oceanside.
Joyce is predeceased by her parents, husband Allen, and oldest son David. She is directly survived by her sons Scott of Dewey, AZ and Jeffrey of Rancho Mirage, CA; her grandchildren Megan McClain of Mentone; Patrick Dangermond of Philadelphia, PA.; and Lisa Armstrong of Tigard, OR. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Alexander and Andrew McClain, and Ava Armstrong. She was adored by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
The Dangermond family would like to effusively give thanks to Home Instead and Pacific Pines for taking such good care of beloved Joyce.
Mrs. Dangermond’s Memorial Service will be held at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel on May 13, 2022 at 1:00 PM. She will be interred privately at Hillside Memorial Park. Suggested memorial donations may be made to Redlands Family Service, Friends of Kimberly Crest, Friends of A.K. Smiley Public Library, or the Redlands Boys and Girls Club.
