Julio Jamie Piedra

Julio Jaime Piedra was born in Quito, Ecuador on January 12, 1927 to Rosa and Jesus Piedra. He passed away in Redlands, California on December 14, 2011. Julio was married to Marina Piedra in Barranqilla, Columbia on May 24, 1950. He graduated from El Cebollar High School in Quito, Ecuador and from the Naval Acadamy of Buenos Aires in 1950. He was an oil tanker Captain. He was a Ecuadorian Naval Lieutenant from 1952-1953 and a Captain, First Class from 1990-1993. He was an honorary member of the Association Deportivo Cali, a member of the Association de Radio Oficionados and Loma Linda University Drayson Center. Julio completed the 5k run through Redlands at the age of 84. He received the award for "Best Captain", won soccer tournament at flopec. He took a fleet of shrimp boats from Buena Ventura, Columbia to Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina. Julio Jaime Piedra was a fighter, a man with a socialist ideology. He had friends from across the globe. He always looked for a positive outlook on life. He loved to help friends, was full of life, self-committed, and an avid soccer player. He had a humble personality and was full of love - especially for family. Until the end of his life he was incredibly active, and had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Marina Piedra. His children Marinella Piedra, James Piedra, Rose Marie Piedra, and Isabella Piedra. Grandchildren Luis Enrique, Maria Andrea, Juan Diego, Fernando and Marcello. He is also survived by siblings Maria Isabel, Carmita Piedra, Marco Piedra, Gustavo Piedra and Fina Parreno.
