LaVerne Faye Lucas passed away at age 89 in Oroville, CA on 1/30/2018. LaVerne was born in Mesquite, NM on 3/26/1928 to Jarvis and Anna Bell (Harkey) Robison. LaVerne married Robert (Bob) H. Lucas on 4/23/1945 and they settled in Redlands, CA in 1967 after spending time in New Mexico, Bakersfield and Del Mar, CA. LaVerne was an avid gardener and loved competing in the annual Redlands Horticultural Society Garden Show, winning many blue ribbons for her beautiful flowers. After retiring from 20 years as a hairdresser, she volunteered at Redlands Unified School District, helping elementary school children learn to read. She was a talented seamstress and prolific quilter. She was proud of making and donating a red, white and blue quilt to the non-profit Quilt of Valor program for physically or psychologically wounded servicemembers.
She was dedicated to her family and is survived by her son Michael Lucas (Cheryl), daughter D'Aon Lucas (Bob Winkels), granddaughters Jennifer Morgan and Lindsey Godwin (Jacob), and great grandchildren Ayla Morgan, Lucy Morgan and Lucas Godwin. She was also survived by Darrel and Sherri Olson, and their three children, Megan, Alison, and Ryan, whom she considered family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob and son Robert M. Lucas.
A viewing will be held at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel at 12:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. graveside service at Hillside Memorial Park, Redlands, California on 2/8/2018.
