Lawrence Gene Philibert

May 11, 1947 — June 15, 2019

Lawrence "Larry" Gene Philibert, 72 died Saturday, June 15, 2019 at home in Redlands, California after an illness.
Born and raised in Southern California he was the son of Leo and Lois (Montgomery) Philibert.
After graduating from high school, Larry joined the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. During this time, he married his sweetheart Bonita Nikolaus and they were sent to Terrejon Air Force Base in Spain where Larry was an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. He traveled between Spain and Turkey fixing various aircraft including the F-100.
Upon returning home in 1970 with an honorable discharge, Larry joined his father at the Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked for the railroad for over 30 years, retiring as a Brakeman/Conductor.
Larry was a ham radio operator. He held an Amateur Extra license and enjoyed talking to and documenting his contacts with other ham radio enthusiasts around the world. He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed nothing more than traveling to a local lake and trying his luck at catching his limit for the day. During retirement, Larry learned woodworking and enjoyed making gifts for his family.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Bonita Philibert; his two children Gena Philibert-Ortega (David) and Jason Philibert (Teresa); and three grandsons, Daniel Ortega, Brandon Ortega, and Nicolau Philibert.
Services and burial will be conducted at the Riverside National Cemetery.
