Leroy Scott Thomas

August 12, 1925 — August 8, 2012

Leroy Scott Thomas died August 8, 2012 at Redlands Community Hospital at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sang, his children, Cindy, Michael, Kim, Eva, Roy, and their respective families. Scott was born on August 12, 1925, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, but spent much of his youth in Los Angeles. Later, while attending USC, Scott was a member of the varsity gymnastics team. Following the assault on Pearl Harbor, he left school to enlist in the U.S. Army as an infantryman, serving during campaigns both in the Philippines and in Okinawa. Following an honorable separation from the Army, he resumed his education at USC. After 14 long years of attending night school and working days as a draftsman at an architectural firm, Scott obtained his degree in mechanical engineering. His first project as a professional engineer was the design of the Philadelphia Mint, which opened in 1969. Later, he worked for Ralph M. Parsons in Viet Nam as project engineer from 1967-1972. In the summer of 1972, Scott began his career with TRW Defense and Space System Group in Southern California. Although his primary focus at TRW was national defense, he also participated in works on multiple patents. After decades of service to his country in the Army and in the civil sector, Scott left TRW in 1992 to enjoy a quiet retirement. We are grateful to Scott for his dedication to country and family- we will miss him greatly. A memorial service will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery at 12:30, on August 16, 2012. A private interment will proceed immediately following the ceremony.
