Leslie Sunny Mason

November 29, 1932 — January 11, 2013

Leslie Sunny Mason of Redlands, CA, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of January 11th at Rose Garden Residential Care in Mentone, CA. She is survived by her husband-of-fifty-years Jerry; her children Dan; Mark and his wife Pia; Tim; and Christy; grandchildren Todd and his wife Holly; Gwen (Montgomery) and her children Hailey, Tyler and Braden; and Josh; niece Julie Hines Payne and her family; nephew Jason Hines; friend Debra Allen and her husband Doug; and many other friends throughout the U.S. She never forgot those she loved. Leslie was a class taught Christian Scientist in the Association of the Pupils of John Selover, CSB. She was a devoted member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA (the Mother Church) and of local branch First Church of Christ, Scientist in Redlands CA for many years. Among her many church appointments, she most enjoyed participation in the Outreach Committee. Her love of theatre was launched in childhood when she won the male lead in the Girl Scout play. In adulthood, she joined the Dayton (OH) Theatre Guild, and organized a theatre group at Edwards AFB (CA). She wrote and directed plays for and starring children. After the family moved to the Redlands area, Leslie attended Crafton Hills College, regularly posting her straight A grades on the refrigerator to inspire and tease her school-age children. While there, she appeared on stage in the role of Maggie Antrobus in the Crafton Hills College Theatre ( CHCT ) production of The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder, going on to work behind-the-scenes with CHCT for many productions. She worked in public relations for the Redlands Theatre Festival ( RTF ) for many years and was an enthusiastic booster when RTF built their theatre in Prospect Park. She displayed such a talent for sales during the drive for donations that a local car dealer offered to hire her on the spot, a story that grew a little bigger and a lot funnier every time she told it. She always made everything more fun. Leslie loved games, dancing, talking with friends and family, and sharing her enthusiasm and joy for living with everyone she met. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to: First Church, of Christ, Scientist, Redlands, CA 110 W. Vine St, Redlands CA 92373 or Dayton Theatre Guild Attn: "Golden Playbill" 430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH 45410 or to the charity of your choice.
