Lewis Michael Israelitt

Lewis (Lew) was born in Bronx, N.Y. He lived in Bronx until the age of six, at which time his family moved to Moosup, CONN. Lew attended elementary and high schools in Moosup. While in High School, he lettered in football and track. Lew entered college in 1953. He received a Commission as a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force, at graduation in 1957.

Lew married Dolly Church in July 2013. Together they have three children and six grandchildren.  

Lew earned a B.S.in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut, where he lettered in football; an M.S. in Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he was a Distinguished Graduate. Lew graduated from the Defense Systems Management School, where he was a Distinguished Graduate as well. Lew also graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, where he was also a Distinguished Graduate

Lew served four years in headquarters USAFE in Wiesbaden, Germany. He also served one year in Malmstrom AFB, Montana as Logistics Officer in the Minute Man Missile Site Activation Task Force; two years at Ogden Air Logistics Center in the Minute Man Support Office; two years at Clark AFB, Philippines, as a Logistics Officer in charge of setting up maintenance and supply facilities in Thailand and South Viet Nam. In addition, Lew served at-Headquarters USAF as a Logistics Plans Officer and then as an Executive Officer to the Air Force Logistics Plans General Vice Commander 432nd Tac Fighter Wing for Logistics and Maintenance. 

In addition, Lew served three years on the Joint Service Staff in the Pentagon, where he was responsible for planning logistics support for a major European operation. He also served three years at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, where he was the Vice Commander of the International Logistics Plans Office; one year as Dean of the School of Systems and Logistics at the Air Force Institute of Technology, and finally as Director of Material Management at the OK City Air Logistics Center, where Lew culminated his 20 year career, having been promoted to full Colonel four years before his retirement. In January of 1983, Lew became a Vice President on the Northrop B-2 Bomber Program, until his retirement in early 1995. 

Lew’s favorite charity was the Wounded Warrior program. He enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. Lew’s Hobbies were reading and playing golf, having achieved 19 holes in one in his 51 years of playing golf.

 Lew was twice recognized by the Society of Aeronautical Engineers for his innovative design suggestions for the B-2 Bomber. He also was a recipient of the Air Force Legion of Merit and Four Oak Leaf Clusters.
