Century 21 Realtor was a 46-year Redlander
Liv S. Kensok, a 46-year resident of Redlands, died on July 14, 2023, of Alzheimer’s Disease. She
was 92. She was born on November 16, 1930, in Norway, the daughter of Anders and Jenny
Seim. At age 18 she came to California where she studied fashion merchandising at Long Beach
City College. While in college she was sponsored by the Long Beach Rotary Club who gave her
financial assistance and introduced her to American ways of life and work.
She married a Long Beach Police Officer, Bob Garrene, on June 22, 1952. He had been recalled
to the Air Force and assigned to pilot duty in Japan. Liv joined him there where they had two
sons, Robert, and Bjorn, before returning to the United States. Settling in Long Beach following
Bob’s military duty, Liv began working in real estate in 1967 and in 1975 became part owner of
a Long Beach realty firm.
Liv and Bob moved to Redlands in 1977 when Bob obtained a professorship position at San
Bernardino Valley College. Liv continued working as a realtor with Century 21 in Redlands. She
also became an active volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, starting and leading a bible
study program, serving on the church council, and as a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister.
After Bob died of cancer in 1993, Liv, having retired from her realtor job after 23 years, joined
the Cancer Society. She also became a member of Assistance League, Meals on Wheels,
Breakfast Club, and PEO Chapter N.
She married Air Force Colonel Orville “Bud” Kensok on April 19, 1997. Upon Bud’s retirement in
1998, they cruised extensively throughout the world until 2020, when cruising was curtailed by
the Covid lockdown. They also often visited Norway, where her two brothers, Bjorn and
Torstein Seim, reside with their families.
In addition to her husband, two sons and two brothers, Liv is survived by a step-son, a step-
daughter, nine grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren. She had two great-grandchildren
on the way.
A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 115 W. Olive Ave, Redlands,
at 10:00 am Friday, August 11, followed by a reception in the parish hall from 11:00 am to 1:00
pm, and interment at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, at 2:00 pm.
