Lizandro Garza “Lenny” Gil, was a life long resident of Redlands. He was a loving father, a faithful husband and a fierce friend. If he liked you, you were friends for life.
He endured an 18 month battle with cancer and he fought with his entire being, finally succumbing to his illness on March 14th, 2024, at the age of 68. His resilience and determination against this unrelenting adversary demonstrated to those watching what it meant to “Fight the Good Fight” and how to endure against all odds. He refused to let the cancer define him.
Lenny is preceded in death by his loving wife Guadalupe Gutierrez Gil and his Parents Martin Lisandro and Nieves Garza Gil. He is grieved by his three children, four siblings and countless friends and extended family.
In his working life Lenny worked for the California Youth Authority where he supervised crews of inmates fighting woodland fires. His commitment and dedication to firefighting and protecting lives and structures throughout the state of California was admirable. When he retired he decided on a new career as a truck driver delivering cargo to all forty eight states. As a driver trainer he shared his talents and skills with new recruits leaving a lasting legacy to drive in his footsteps.
Lenny lived life his way, with no regrets and with no apologies. He was a free spirit that loved to challenge the status quo. Just because something was, doesn’t mean that it always had to be. He was quick to challenge your beliefs and make sure that you understood the issue at hand. He loved old cars, fast motorcycles, good food and company.
He will be missed for his quick wit and infectious laugh, his relentless teasing and cheating at dominos. But most of all for his love and dedication to family.
