Lloyd Rodney Griffith

June 17, 1935 — November 30, 2017

Lloyd R. Griffith 82, of Mentone, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 30, 2017 following a head injury after a fall at home.
He was born in Quapaw, Oklahoma and grew up in Baxter Springs, Kansas. In 1956 he married Janis Inman and moved to California.
He began working at Ace Radiator Co in San Bernardino as a radiator repairman in 1957. In 1978, he moved to Auto Radiator Service in Redlands and remained there until he retired in 2007.
He was an avid trap shooter and was a member of the Inland Trap and Skeet Club in Redlands, and the Amateur Trap Association.  He shot competitively for many years.  He also dearly loved stock car racing.  In the 1960’s he began attending the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino and Speedway 605 in Irwindale after building and repairing radiators for numerous racers. It was at Orange Show Speedway where he was mechanic and crew chief on the car he owned that was driven by his daughter Terri in the 1980’s and 90’s.  He enjoyed spending time with his family on weekends at the races, and during the week working on the race car to get ready for the upcoming weekend’s race.
He also enjoyed RV camping at Riverside Int’l Raceway as well as going to Ontario Motor Speedway and Ascot.  He had many friends in the racing and automotive community from working in the radiator business for over 55 years, along with friends he made through racing.
He was a member of the Mentone Assembly of God Church, and in later years attended the Packinghouse Church in Redlands.
He and his wife Janis had just celebrated 61 years of marriage in August.
He loved and was greatly loved by his family and will be deeply missed by everyone. He always had a smile on his face and was always there for those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Dutton in 1985 and by his step father, Didrick Dulton in 1988.
He is survived by his wife Janis; Daughters, Lori (Tom) Cortes, Banning, Terri (Rob) McMahan, Redlands; grandchildren, Robby (Melissa) Dofflow, Yucaipa, Daniel (Dana) Dofflow Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Stephanie (Josh) Johnson, Banning, Andrew McManan, San Bernardino; and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands, California.
Graveside Service will be Thursday, December 7, 2017, 1:00 pm at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Calimesa, California.
