Loren Edward Thompson was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Arthur and Doris Thompson. Loren's family later moved to Southern California where he attended school. Following the United States entry in World War II, Loren enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Loren served in the USCG from September 30, 1942 until he was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on October 8, 1945. He then entered the University of Southern California, School of Commerce. Loren graduated in January 1949 and went on to become a licensed real estate broker and realtor. He was a life-long USC Trojan fan. Sally Morrison and Loren Thompson were married on March 14, 1959 in Clark County, Nevada. The Thompsons lived in Southern California their entire married life, retiring in Carlsbad, California. Loren and Sally were Godparents to Sally Jo DeMaggio, daughter of their dear friends, Nancy and Joe DeMaggio. The Thompson and DeMaggios spent many happy summers together in Carlsbad. Both Sally and Loren were avid golfers and bridge players. Loren was preceded in death by his brother Richard. Richard had 4 children; Ronald (deceased,) Robin, Roxanne and Randolph. Loren recently moved to Mission Commons Retirement Community in Redlands, California. While there he enjoyed visits with his friend Joe DeMaggio and watching USC football games on the television. In accordance with his wishes, Loren will be cremated and his ashes interred at Riverside National Cemetery with honors. His wife Sally's ashes will be interred with him during the same ceremony. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after the service.
