Loris Opal Stewart Vernier

April 23, 1913 — January 22, 2013

Loris Opal Stewart Vernier was born April 23, 1913 in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood in the Byron, Oklahoma and Attica, Kansas areas. Following the death of her father in 1930, Loris and her mother, Mary Stewart moved to San Bernardino, California to live with and care for Mary s mother. Loris worked in a laundry until her marriage at age 20 to Raymond Vernier. Following her marriage, she and Raymond lived in Hollywood for several years. They moved to a small farm in Yucaipa in the 40s, residing in the old farmhouse while they built their home on Avenue D. They raised chickens and sold eggs and had a cow for milking. In the 60s they began to subdivide their farm property and eventually kept only one and one half acres where their home was located. Following Raymond s death in 1982, Loris continued to live in the home they built on Avenue D until early 2012 when her health necessitated a move to Sunshine House, an assisted living facility in Calimesa. Loris will be missed by all her old friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, a stepdaughter, her sisters Leah Polson and Vera Ford, her brother Marvin Stewart, her nieces Deleah Peffly and Mary Alexander, and her nephews Dareus Polson, Harold Polson, Jimmy Stewart, Kenneth Ford, and Keith Ford. She is survived by a stepdaughter Ruth Cook, her nieces Donna Morrow and Shirley Schmidt, and many grand-nieces and nephews. Donations are requested in lieu of flowers to the Amorita/Byron volunteer fire department, Byron, Oklahoma 73722 or Meals on Wheels, 12202 First St, Yucaipa, Ca 92399 phone 951-342-3057. Services will be held Sunday, January 27th, 2013 at 2 pm at Emerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 35208 Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa, CA. Private burial will be at Hillside Memorial Park, Redlands, CA.
