Lydia Orrantia, Age 85, passed away peacefully in her daughters home in Yucaipa on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 due to Parkinsons disease and dementia. She previously, resided at Plymouth Village, and subsequently, Blossom Grove in Redlands. Lydia was born to Alfred and Cenovia Granillo, May 14, 1935 in Redlands, California. Lydia graduated from St. Bernardines High School, San Bernardino, CA in 1953. She was very active in the schools sports program excelling in tennis and basketball; was a Varsity cheerleader; and had the honor of being crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year.
After graduation, she married Frank Orrantia and had three children, Celeste, Donald, and Glen. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren (Jake, Brianna, and Lauren, plus two step grandchildren, Randy and Sam).) and her four great-grandchildren Leila, Melinda, Fernando and Hendrix. Lydia was a loving Nina (Godmother) to nephew, Bryan Jones, and niece, Rochelle Baker. She was affectionately addressed as "Big Nina" by their children.
When her family was young, they enjoyed annual vacations travelling throughout the western states with camping and fishing a must. Many times these vacations welcomed extended family members and even her parents, Fred and Cenovia. Lydia had a long and exceptional career in the banking world. She started as an escrow officer and advanced to Vice-President of Commercial Lending. She particularly loved her Munoz Aunts, Uncles, and many Cousins and was known to provide valuable financial advice or assistance to family and friends.
In retirement she continued traveling the United States, Europe, and her most favorite place Hawaii, playing tennis, skiing, biking, and golf. She was a founding member of the Yucaipa Ladies Golf Association and also regularly played at the Calimesa Golf Club.
She even found time to volunteer at Santa Claus, Inc, located in San Bernardino, with her surviving Sister, Phyllis Jones. She successfully organized fundraising golf tournaments, so that this non-profit could fulfill its mission of supporting the less fortunate in the Inland Empire. She loved gardening and beautified her home in Cherry Valley with lots of her favorite roses and irises.
In lieu of flowers, her family recommends donations to her favorite charity, St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
