Manuel C Chavez was born in Redlands to Maria Cordova and Francisco Chavez on March 22, 1926 and at 90 years old passed away December 24, 2016 at St Bernadine’s Hospital. Manny was a life time resident of Redlands California and a survivor of World War II. He served in the United States Marine Corps with an honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1946, fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and was honored with the Purple Heart Medal. His past employment included a Harvest Fruit Worker, Sheet Metal Technician at Norton Air Force Base, then owned and operated Superior Juke Box Co. He also sponsored “Manny’s” Softball Fast Pitch “A” League Team for the Western Southern Conference who placed 3rd in the World Softball Championships in Chicago. He was an active member of St Mary’s church for 75 years as well as Founder and life member of American Legion Post 650. Manny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Manny is survived by his son, Robert L Chavez and wife Paula J Chavez; Son Rene L Chavez; and daughters Jayne Chavez-Scales; Marie C Stortz; Susan L C Houpy and Husband Aaron W Houpy; Nephew Don Larry Cordova
Holguin; grandchildren Zachariah P Scales, Jessica M Hernandez; Great-grandchildren Margaret J Scales and Elijah M Cooper.
Viewing will take place Tuesday, Jan 3, 2017 from 4:00pm-6:00 pm with Eulogy and Rosary from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands, CA 92373. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, Jan 4, 2017, 12:00PM at The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish (Formerly St. Mary's Catholic Church), 1205 Columbia St., Redlands, CA 92374. Reception to follow service at The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Parish Hall, 1205 Columbia St., Redlands CA. Procession to Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Rd., Redlands, CA 92373 to begin at 2:00 pm and interment to begin at 2:30 pm.
